Sneak Peek: Resident Evil 2 Remake

in gaming •  6 years ago  (edited)

For transparency's sake, I will freely say that I have never played the original Resident Evil 2 game. While I have played some of the entries in the franchise, it was hard to ignore one of the iconic titles that held Resident Evil in their name. Needless to say, this is a game I went in blind, expecting only a few things; zombies, killing zombies and a whole bunch of mutants.

Having played this for four hours, I've had the pleasure to get to know what to expect in this game first hand. First, let's start off with one of the most well-known protagonists of the franchise, Leon Scott Kennedy. This guy had been the face of RE4 and a solid chunk of RE6. Now we get to see his younger and naive self in the remake of RE2 as he tries to survive a harsh new environment filled with zombies. In this particular sneak peek, Leon is teamed up with Ada as they fight their way through the zombies. This particular scenario introduces you to the two of them while giving a taste of what to expect in the depths of Raccoon City.

Needless to say, the story was fascinating as I played from Leon's perspective and furthermore discovered some of his earlier history first-hand. The action gameplay is all about maximising the resources you have at hand. After all, bullets and other important items are in limited supply.

With the twists and turns in this game, expect to phase dangers that made Resident Evil 2 known for being among the best in its franchise. With Leon and Ada accompanying him, it was a major blast to see it.

However, this isn't the end of this sneak peek. I've also had the pleasure to play another character who isn't as prominent, but no less iconic than her fellow protagonist, Claire Redfield. If you aren't familiar with her, she is the younger sister of Chris Redfield, who has appeared in a number of mainstream Resident Evil games. While she isn't as beefy or tough-looking as her brother, her sheer, fiery will and capabilities will make you realise how much of a badass she is.

It's an exciting experience to play as her as she is accompanied by Sherry Birkins. You fight mutants that can appear at any angle, you have to be prudent with your resources or end up facing situations that could hurt your progress, and you have to solve puzzles within limited time frames or face a lot of pain while at it. While there is much to say about this particular segment, it is something you had to experience first hand as it had my heart racing.

Overall, the game handled really well so far, the movements felt smooth and fluid while keeping the core of feeling restricted by limited resources and numerous zombies and mutants.
