We lace all of the spray bottles we use on our daughter's hair with tea tree oil -- water, detangler, hairspray. The stuff is supposedly a natural lice repellent, and can kill lice and eggs if present. I don't know if it actually works, but it's cheap, easy, and so far, she hasn't had lice yet.
