Differences between BBT thermometers and measuring points (result of comparing test)

in health •  7 years ago

I track my body temperature both for my health in general and for my hormonal imbalance in particular. For example, consistent readings can give me valuable information about my fertility cycle and the status of my adrenals and thyroid. For this reason, it is important to get accurate values and find a thermometer that is easy to use. For this reason, I have made a test (see previous post "Comparing test of BBT thermometers and measuring points". I have compared the difference between two measuring points (orally/rectally) and three basal thermometers:

  1. Natural Cycles digital BBT (purple)
  2. Geratherm digital BBT
  3. Geratherm glass BBT thermometer

I have measured with all of the three thermometers three times a day at the same time for four days.

So I thought I would be able to find some patterns just by looking at the numbers but my temp is just all over the place..! The thermometers sometimes differ almost 1 degree in-between and this is also true for the two measuring points. So far I am not able to draw conclusions on which thermometer and measuring point is more accurate. Perhaps putting it all in Excel will bring some clarity. However, thermometer 1 seems to be the most stable one, it always gives a reading within ca 15 seconds to a minute. But in general it showed slightly lower than the other thermometers. Thermometer no 2 and 3 sometimes gave questionable readings. As thermometer 1 is also way faster and easier to use than the other two, I will choose this one as my standard thermometer.
