Breathing the Wim Hoff Method
What if I told you I haven't been ill for almost two years. I'm not a health freak, I eat normally, sleep too little, and work extremely hard.
I was introduced the the Wim Hoff method by one of my Sifus.
I have seen my fair share of crackpots on my martial arts journey, so didn't expect much from this.
But, as with anything I take an interest in, I researched the hell out of it.
At the time, all of the techniques were freely available.
So I started doing the breathing techniques.
Aftet the first session, which consisted of 4 sets of the breathing exercises. I knew I was into something.
The sensations were akin to the feelings I get after about 4 hours of Chi Kung breathing. In less than an hour.
I was blown away.
So I started doing the breathing every night.
If you would like to try these techniques. Instructions are as follows.
- Sit or lie in a comfortable, quite position
- Breath in fully and quickly then breath out naturally. Do this for between 30 and 50 breaths. I actually prefer to do this 100 times as the effects seam to last longer.
- On the last breath, breath in as much as you can then exhale. Don't force the exhale. Let it happen naturally. Stop exhaled by when you feel comfortable. Then hold this exhale for as long as you can. You'll be surprised how long this is. After about 30-50 seconds you may notice an inword facing sensation. Focus on this. Be aware of your body.
- Eventually you'll feel the need to breath in. Fight this for as long as you can. When you can no longer hold off. Take a deep breath and hold this for as long as you like. I tend to do it for about 30-40 seconds. Around about the 15-25 second mark you will get a rush. It's an extremely nice sensation. But will only last for about 5 seconds the first time.
- Release the breath then rinse and repeat.
The more sets of this breathing you do, the longer and more intense the rush is.
You may notice tingling sensations. Or a locking of joints or muscles. All of this is perfectly normal. I actually quite enjoy them.
The above information is enough to begin training the Wim Hoff method.
If you would like any additional information, please feel free to ask.
