In part 1 of this post, I am going to cover two of the four most important habits for successful Weight-Loss.
Number 1:
Cut Back on Refined Flour and Added Sugars
Number 2:
Eat more Lean Protein
ADDED SUGARS:
Often times people are getting more calories than they realize from the added sugars in drinks. Take a look at your liquid consumption over the typical week. Some common areas of hidden sugars sneak in during coffee, tea, juices, sodas etc.
REFINED FLOUR & WHEAT:
Although tasty getting your calories from refined sources like white flour are not only empty of nutrition they are always compromising to your gut health. (link to gut issues)
LEAN PROTEIN:
When you start eating properly you will soon realize their is no need to go hungry. The problem is that the food you were eating before was delicious and chalk full of carbohydrates tricking your brain into eating a lot more than it should. Think about this, If you could only fill your plate with lean protein and vegetables, would you still be worried about overeating. Likely not but here is another cool fact about protein. When we break down the food we eat it takes calories to make calories. This has been called (TEF) Thermic Effect of Food. A simplified reason for how we can use this to our advantage is this.
(TEF) THERMIC EFFECT OF FOOD:
For every 100 calories of Fat the body needs to burn 5 calories (100:5)
For every 100 calories of Complex Carbohydrate the body needs to burn 10 calories (100:10)
For every 100 calories of Protein the body needs to burn 25 calories (100:25)
Take Home Point:
Adding in more protein to your diet while cutting out the junk carbohydrates with have a double edged effect in that you will be saving calories by taking out the junk and you will be burning calories by adding in the protein
