Exploring small abandon West Texas Oilfield town.

Penwell Texas



Located roughly 20 miles west of Odessa Texas is an abandoned oilfield town called Penwell Texas. Penwell is named after Robert R. Penn who drilled the drilled the first oil well in town back in 1929. It wasn't long before the area was full of wells. Then some where in the 1980's, oil came crashing down . Today the town is a shadow of it's former self. It's not a complete ghost town, there is still a post office and a few residents.

    I lived in Odessa for many years and always saw a sign for Penwell but wondered where the hell it was at. lol Guess I passed through it without realizing it.
