Three star hotels in Aceh received Red Proper from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry along with 1,313 other companies in Indonesia. In Aceh, there are 22 companies that received Red Proper and are dominated by companies engaged in palm oil plantations.
The three hotels are Hermes Palace Hotel Banda Aceh (PT Berlian Global Perkasa), Kyriad Muraya Hotel (PT Gadjah Aceh), and Parkside Gayo Petro Hotel (PT Gayo Petro Hotel) in Takengon, Central Aceh. All three hotels are often used as references by the government and private sector to hold events. This means that the government and private sector have contributed to the prospects of the three hotels.
This Proper is a program to assess the ranking of companies in environmental management issued by the Ministry of Environment every year. Red Proper is a ranking given to companies that manage the environment in a manner that is not in accordance with laws and regulations. One click below, there is Black Proper which is given to companies that pollute the environment. The other three better propers are blue, green, and gold.
It is natural that more attention is paid to companies that get a red rating. This is not only about the adage that bad news is good news, but also the environmental responsibility of the company that must be maintained properly.
Star-rated accommodations such as Hermes, Kyriad, and Parkside are hotels with names that are already attached to the minds of customers. They are brand owners who should maintain the quality of their name from social responsibility by maintaining environmental quality.
For well-known hotels, getting a Red Proper is a disgrace that must be avoided. When their esteemed guests find out about their indifference to the environment, the hotel owners and managers should be ashamed, and guests can punish them by no longer staying there.
Even more embarrassing, Hermes and Kyriad Hotels received the Red Proper predicate the previous year. This proves that there is no good intention from them to improve their attitude in caring for the surrounding environment. The previous year's poor performance should have been enough of a warning not to repeat it again the following year.
With conditions like this, the Aceh DPR or the local parliament can summon the management to question their commitment to the environment. Where do they use the service fees they charge customers. Whether or not there is any flow to the local community.
The Aceh Government and DPR also need to ask further about what violations were committed by the hotel management so that they received Red Proper in succession. If it continues to be ignored, it is not impossible that in the future they will get Black Proper and the local community will feel the consequences.[]
