Extreme Weather Hits Bireuen Regency Again.

Extreme weather has hit Aceh Province again, this time causing floods and strong winds that hit Bireuen Regency on Friday night, August 9, 2024. As a result, hundreds of residents' houses were submerged in floods, while a dayah was severely damaged.

The Aceh Disaster Management Agency (BPBA) reported that flooding occurred in Jeunieb District, precisely in Gampong Meunasah Ketapang and Janggot Seungkoe, with water levels reaching ± 5 to 50 cm. A total of 128 residents' houses in Gampong Meunasah Ketapang were submerged in floods, affecting 508 people from 128 families.

In addition to flooding, strong winds that hit Peusangan District also caused a tree to fall on the roof of Dayah Tauthiatul Ukhuwah in Gampong Cot Ijue. The dayah was severely damaged, but no fatalities were reported in this incident.

BPBD Bireuen Regency officers have conducted monitoring, coordination, and cleaning at the flood-affected locations. Currently, the water conditions are starting to recede and traffic in the area is returning to normal.

Pusdalops PB BPBD Bireuen Regency will continue to monitor the weather and disaster situation throughout Aceh, and report further developments if there are emergency conditions that require special attention.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Bireuen Disaster Preparedness Cadet Coordinator Forum (Tagana) Zulfikar GA in the disaster report release stated that two sub-districts were submerged by overflow floods, while the flood inundated Kota Juang Sub-district and Jeunieb Bireuen Sub-district.

For Kota Juang Sub-district, there are two villages submerged by overflow floods, namely Geudong-Geudong Village and Geudong Teungoh Pulo Ara. The flood is estimated to reach a height of ±30 centimeters, the flood was caused by heavy rain and overflowing water channels in residential areas.

Meanwhile, for Jeunieb District, flooding covered the villages of Meunasah Kupula, Meunasah Tambo, Meunasah Keutapang, Sampo Ajad, Tufah, Ulee Blang, and Blang Neubok. The water level is estimated to reach ±20 centimeters to ±40 centimeters, the flood was caused by heavy rain that poured over the area so that the water in the residential channels overflowed.

Zulfikar added that there were no evacuation points and casualties in the disaster, at 23.30 WIB the water began to recede in the residential areas.
