Introduction

Crypto assets are not fiat currencies that we can keep in the bank and live in peace with. It is a digital currency, for which there are chances of being scammed. With the internet revolution, scammers and hackers are coming up with innovative ways to scam. So it is our own responsibility to keep our assets secure. In today's contest i will discuss common crypto scams and how to avoid them.

Explain Your Understanding Of Crypto Scam.

A crypto scam is a fraud scheme through which people are cheated through digital currencies and others by promising high returns with little or no effort. They are used to lure big investors to get high returns through minimal bricks.

These scams are typically conducted by unscrupulous individuals or organizations that take advantage of people who are not familiar with the system or who are looking to make a quick profit.

Crypto scams may also involve hacking into cryptocurrency exchanges or wallets to steal money or personal information

Explain The various Types of crypto Scam

With time, scammers are trying new and innovative ways to scam. Below, I discuss some of the processes through which people fall prey to more scams.

Pumping & Dumping:

  • In this process, artificial inflation is created in a cryptocurrency. False and misleading information is spread around. Fake news is spread on various social media platforms so that investors see it and invest their assets through influence. Scammers quickly dump it when they see the opportunity.

Fake ICO:

  • By launching fake ICO of a cryptocurrency, investors are lured with high returns in a short period of time. These fake initial coins are launched especially for the purpose of scamming.

Pyramid Scheme:

  • A pyramid scheme is a very common method of scamming anything. This type of scam involves using the investments of new investors to pay out existing investors, creating a false impression of profitability. In this case, different labels are also given according to the recruitment statistics.
  • Users recruit new users here through their referrals in the hope of making more profit. In this scheme, the early users may gain some, but the maximum number of users are the victims of a scam.

Fake wallet:

  • Currently, many fake cryptocurrency wallets are visible. These are either websites or applications like other popular wallets. These fake wallets offer various bonuses to entice users to deposit their funds and show the benefits of zero transaction fees. When users provide their private keys and information to these wallets, scammers gain access to the users' funds.

Phishing and 3rd party Links:

  • In this way, hackers pose as legitimate project or individuals to steal our personal information or cryptocurrency. Be sure to check the URL of any website before providing your information or funds.

How Can We Do In Other To Spot This Types Of Crypto Scams.

Scammers know very well that everyone wants to make a quick profit in a short period of time, but no one wants to lose.

Don’t trust "guaranteed returns":

  • Be wary of projects that promise guaranteed returns or even "guaranteed profits." Any investment has both profit and loss. And it is never possible to gain without risk . But whoever tells you that if you invest here, you will get 100% guaranteed profit and profit, then it is definitely fake. because no legitimate can ever guarantee in advance whether it will be profitable.

Don’t click unsolicited links:

  • Do not click on any kind of spam or suspicious links. Especially phishing starts by spreading these spammy links. Stay alert for phishing scams. Hackers can send you these links in different ways. It may be in your e-mail, in your social media inbox, or on your personal phone number.

Don't invest in someone else's words :

  • One should refrain from investing based on the words of others without experience. because scammers work as a team. Scammers especially target those who have little understanding of the project and its fundamentals. It makes people interested in investing by showing alluring temptations in various ways.

Have You Ever Be Scammed Before? Or Have A Person That You Know Ever Be Scammed? Explain To Us The Incident.

So far, I've never been a victim of a crypto scam. But I remember an incident earlier this year in which I almost fell victim to a scam. A scammer inboxed me with a link to a new wallet, touting its benefits. It was a Play Store link and a decentralized wallet. I research it well and make sure about the legitimacy of the wallet.

But the scammer tried to scam me by luring me with another link. The first time he won my trust was by giving me a legit Play Store link. Then he provided me a link to a third-party site and said if I signed up to connect the site with the wallet, then my wallet funds would increase by 2.5% every day.

Various 3rd party app can be connected to these decentralized wallets. His link looked suspicious to me, so I researched it well and found out it was a phishing link. If a user types his fund password there, then the scammers have access to the wallet. I didn't visit the link and saved myself from the scam.

Snapshot from my playstore: Tried to cheat me by connecting third party website with this wallet. The wallet was legit but the site was a scam.

Since then, whenever I see such scam links being shared on various social media, I immediately alert people about it.

How Can One Protect Himself From Crypto Scam

Before investing, you must research the project and the company well. Make sure the project is legitimate. Get an idea about the team behind the project and their experience. Those who are investors in this project should read the reviews carefully.

A trusted wallet must be used to store assets. Wallets that have a good reputation and a history of transparency. A wallet password and private information can never be shared with anyone. As much as possible, these should be kept confidential.

Avoid investing in fake ICOs, Ponzi schemes, and anything related to such activities. Before investing, you must research the project well and check its website. Because all the projects that are legitimized have all their contact details on the website,

Check the LinkedIn profiles of the team members behind the project and their other social media profiles. The project should have an idea of how much they have invested in marketing and where they have done it. Understand what phishing links are and always avoid such links.

Conclusion

The best way to protect yourself from crypto scams is to do your own due diligence and research before investing in any crypto project. Make sure you understand the project and its risks, read reviews, and check out the team behind it. Always be careful, and remember to never trust anyone blindly.

This type of pumping and dumping is a type of crypti scam that takes a lot of victims and also a lot of crypto assets.

Someone goes and invests in small projects, because over time these projects will grow and investors will get a lot of profit. However, the story is different when fraud occurs, the fraudsters will create a small project and invite investors, so that when they feel they have collected a lot of coins, they will leave with the money and close the project....
May we always be careful, because we will not know when we are deceived.
Good luck for the contest friends... 👍

Scammers initially target small investors. Especially in such scam projects, the project is first enlarged through small investors. Then try to attract big investors by marketing their project. Scammers scam when they reach their desired target.

Some YouTubers unknowingly promote scammers' projects for a small fee. People who follow these YouTubers see all these promotions, start trusting the project, and at some point fall victim to the scam.

Thanks for your opinion,Friend .

You are absolutely right friend, cause that we must we have to really research on whose side we are going to invest,... oh this is very troubling when we don't know whether they are genuine or fake projects... 🙄

As you have explained crypto scams are really harmful for investors. So being aware of scammers is a good help for them. I wish you good luck that you have not subjected to scammers. Thank you for this valuable information.

These scammers target investors as well as small and large traders. Since their purpose is to cheat people, they don't spare anyone big or small. Many traders have left crypto after falling prey to these scammers. So we must be careful. Thanks for Visiting Friend.

I don't think we will ever get rid of scammers.
All that remains is for us to be on the lookout for them.
Often they are the "unexpected" ones.

Check the LinkedIn profiles of the team members behind the project

Great advice! This is something I have not thought of.

Good luck with the contest!

Scammers will never stop their misdeeds, on the contrary they will develop new tricks day by day to cheat people. We have to be as careful as possible and take any step with discretion.

I start with LinkedIn when researching projects. It helps me to give accurate information.Thank You Dear .

Going through your post, I learnt and gained many interesting and educative points. Crypto scams are aimed at making profit-looking investors loose their money after investing in their fraudulent activity.

When it comes to crypto scams, the best way to protect yourself is to stay level-headed and remain mindful of any red flags that may arise. Don’t let yourself get taken in by promises of extraordinary gains; if something seems too good to be true, then it's better to avoid it.

Thanks for sharing and goodluck in this contest.

Yes ,you are right friend .These scams are becoming more common, so it's important to be vigilant and do our research before investing in it. Seeing others eat makes us want to eat; in the same way, seeing others profit, we ourselves step into the wrong place without any research or knowledge to make a quick profit. As always, if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Sorry to hear that you became the victim of such scam and the scammer played a smart game with you as he won your trust and later sent a fishy link to cheat you. But its fine because you learn a lesson and become alert for next time using secured wallet. Good luck!

I was almost going to be a victim of a scam, but I saved myself from being scammed by seeing so many people being scammed online about such things. The scammer first tried to gain my trust with a link to a legit wallet, and then he gave me a third-party link. Had I visited it, I might have been scammed that day. Thanks for visiting.

I thought the scammer was successful as you wrote you was a victim yourself, my bad that I misunderstand the incident, I appreciate your smartness that you rescued yourself from the scam. Good luck with this contest entry. Thanks!

The scammer tried many ways to gain my trust but he was not successful. Later I came to know that he had done this with many people and many had fallen prey to his lure. So I tried to warn everyone by posting about his misdeeds. We should always be careful.
