A haunting-looking robot that can walk and fly

Researchers at Caltech have developed a haunting-looking robot that can walk on two slender feet and even fly, the robot called leonard or also lion is basically the lower half of a humanoid robot tethered to a flying drone.

The researchers' goal was not to come up with the next mass-marketable invention but to test new forms of locomotion for robots destined to complete dangerous jobs and explore hard-to-reach places.

The researchers suggest that their haunting invention could explore the surface of other worlds including Mars or Saturn's moon Titan, depending on the types of obstacles he needs to cross. Leo can choose to walk or fly or combine the two as needed, plus Leo is capable. from performing unusual locomotion maneuvers such as rope walking and skateboarding.

The team hopes to decrease the weight of leo and increase the thrust of its propellers to allow it to cover even more ground.
