Some days ago I reported that Saturn had more than 100 moons, now the giant planet has 145, which is a record in the solar system.
In total, a team of astronomers of the University of British Columbia discovered 62 new satellites of Saturn.
The discovery was made during the entire search program from ground-based CFHT telescope images taken in 2019-2021.
All new satellites are characterized by sizes up to 2.5 kilometers in diameter and belong to the class of irregular satellites that have elliptical and inclined orbits.
They were captured by Saturn from the outside.
Currently, 24 regular satellites of Saturn and 121 irregular ones are known.
