Ram Kand, as it is known in India, is a popular street snack among the Indians.

It probably acquired its name from the mythological story that it was the only food source of Lord Ram during his exiled tenure in the forest with his wife and brother.

Its popularity probably stems from the medicinal reliefs it allegedly offers and the taste it acquires once seasoned with seasoning although the snack by itself, without the seasoning, is tasteless.

Reading this article one is made to wonder the length human beings go to hide facts when it involves their livelihood and earnings. Given their station in life, can we really blame the vendors for doing so?
