Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun. So naturally many may think the answer to this question is Mercury.
.
But no. The highest average temperature is Venus, the second closest planet to the Sun.
.
Mercury is only 56 million kilometers away from the Sun. During the day its temperature is up to 428 degrees Celsius.
One night on Wednesday is equal to 56 days on Earth. During this long night, Mercury releases heat, which can easily pass through its thin atmosphere. So losing heat, Mercury's temperature at night is minus 163 degrees Celsius.
.
Venus, on the other hand, is twice as far from the Sun as Mercury. Venus has a heavy atmosphere of carbon dioxide and nitrogen. Through which very little heat can escape Venus at night. Therefore, the average day and night temperature of Venus is 482 degrees Celsius.

wrong, maybe it's jupiter due to it's mass and close sun status? I don't know, I wasn't there... a self generating heat source may beat sunshine... but but what is the surface of jupiter? who knows... again, I wasn't there.

I think you are right
