Fiona was a beautiful fairy and she was my best friend. She was kind hearted, soft spoken and loved to laugh and play with me in the garden. We had a lot of fun and I adored her.
Fiona was a bit different than the rest of the fairies. She was taller, wore glasses and braces and her wings were much smaller than the others.
She was a bit 'weird' looking, but this did not bother me at all, because her kind heart made her the most beautiful fairy that I knew and she was the best friend I have ever had. She gave me so much love and made me very happy, so who cared what she looked like.
O believe me, somebody cared... the other fairies.
They were mean to Fiona and loved teasing her about her braces and glasses and the fact that she could not fly as well as they did. This made me very angry and I felt like I could rip them apart and eat them up, but Fiona was the one who just smiled and said
Even though it hurts me if they are that mean to me, I believe in myself and I believe that you do not fix mean fairies by being mean back to them. Mean fairies must be very unhappy with themselves and they are trying to make me unhappy too, but I am happy with myself, even if I am different from them. We are all different, but that does not mean we must be mean to others, that just means that you must love yourself and understand that it is ok to be different. Most of all you must be true to yourself.
This made me love Fiona even more - she was a true inspiration.
One night there was a huge storm. A lot of the branches were blown off the trees.
When I went to the garden the next day to find Fiona, I found her sitting next to a branch and I could hear tiny screams coming from underneath the branch...some of the fairies were trapped. Please, please help us
I did not know what to do and I wanted to go and call the owner of the house, but Fiona just stayed calm and slowly started lifting up the leaves and moving them to one side and also some of the twigs. When she got to the big branch she winked at me and said
Come on Felix, we can do this. Help me push the branch away.
I did not understand why she wanted to help them, they were always so mean. I just wanted to leave them there, but Fiona told me again that two wrongs does NOT make a right. Some people or fairies are so unhappy and mean and use to being that way, they do not even realize it, but it is our jobs to show them the good side of life and that it costs nothing to be friendly.
We pushed and pulled and tried to lift the branch and after a long time all the fairies were free. Some had a few scratches or some broken wings, but nothing that would not heal.
The fairies asked Fiona "Why did you help us? We have just always been mean to you."
Fiona just smiled her sunny smile and told them that even though they hurt her a lot by calling her names and being mean, she always knew that she was special - every person is special in their own right and nobody has the right to make you feel less than that and if you are true to yourself you will not allow mean words to make you feel bad about yourself. And if you stay friendly and happy, people will see that their meanness is not affecting you and they will leave you alone and also have a lot of respect for you (even if it takes some time for them to realize that)
The fairies just stood there with their mouths open. They started crying and thanking and hugging Fiona and told her that they have learned their lesson and will never be mean to her again.
"Can I eat them now?" I asked. Fiona turned around, laughed, winked at me and said "There will be no eating of fairies today."
She just started rubbing me behind my ears and all I could do was just purr.
O Fiona, how I love you...My special , kind, beautiful fairy friend...
