Greetings Friends

If you don't call it tennis elbow, you can call it lateral epicondylitis or elbow tendonitis according to the area of the affected sickness/syndrome. If you understand these terms, the definition will be very simple. Remember, tendons are tissue that links the muscle to the bones; it helps in movement when it transfers the force generated from muscle contraction and relaxation to the bone. With this, our posture, like the position of our hand almost steadily in the air, can be maintained.

Definition of Tennis Elbow

With the other name of tennis elbow, we can start clearly that the inflammation of the tendon linked with the epicondyle (the protruding bone that bumps out of the elbow) is referred to as tennis elbow

Diagnosis of Tennis Elbow

There are several diagnostic approaches to the syndrome or condition of tennis elbow.

  • It is true that the type of job performed may lead to tennis elbow, so one diagnostic approach is collecting vital signs that contain detailed information about family history, which may provide the likelihood of developing tennis elbow, which may be genetic, environmental, and lots more.
  • After the vital signs are obtained, another way to identify the syndrome condition is by physical examination. There is a wide range of examinations that could be done by the therapist, and the pain felt determines how to tackle or which exercise will be more effective on that region, physical examination like palpating, which is very common, checking the range in which the elbow can move, the extension, flexion, and rotation (tips from the previous therapeutic classes).

Special Test

All these tests are done on different sections of the arms that have been proven to develop an effect with the condition of tennis elbow, and their focus is to assess how painful it is on the lateral epicondyle.

  • Mills test: In anatomy, the bones between the wrist and the elbow are the two ulna and radius, so what happens here is that the palms and the interior angle of the elbow are flexed in such a way that they lie in the same direction. In addition, the elbow is made to curve up to about 90 degrees by moving the palm region to the head to examine the angular mobility.
  • Resisted Wrist Extension Test: This test is done to assess the extension strength of the wrist extensor; here the patient's wrist is extended against the resisting extension area to determine the pain as well.

My Review/Feelings

Your paragraph text_20241228_164039_0001.jpg

Since the wrist and elbow connection is with the muscles, tendons, etc., the effect I felt was a pulling of the muscles of that region during the exercise. I didn't really feel an effect in the elbow epicondyle; maybe the reason is that I didn't suffer from lateral epicondylitis at the moment of the exercise performance. The most effect I felt was on the areas the pressure was applied, specifically the wrist and finger (carpals/metacarpals) region. Like I said earlier, not much was on the elbow; this is my feeling.

I would love to see @jyoti-thelight @alegnita and @pea07 join in this contest

Observations

Task 1 (1.2/3)
You have shared a good knowledge about tennis elbow but you didn't add its symptoms, cause, types. It would be better to add explanation of all these things not just the definition of the disease. I appreciate your effort.

Task 2 (2.7/3)
In the second question, you tell us about how you have to assess a patient by doing physical examination, history taking, special tests but didn't add investigations. It would be better to add explanation of investigations. Great.

Task 3 (4/4)
You try the finger stretches, wrist flexor stretch, ball squeezing. You did the finger stretches, ball squeezing, and wrist flexor stretch correctly. Always remember to apply heat pack in chronic condition and ice pack in acute condition before performing exercises to relax the muscles and reduce stiffness. I appreciate your efforts.

Overall you made a great attempt to answer all the questions. I appreciate your efforts. But next time try to avoid the above written suggestions. Keep learning and try to implement your knowledge to the people suffering from tennis elbow or any type of wrist. Thank you.

¡Saludos amigo!🤗
