No person can be tagged to be entirely good or evil since both of those traits seem to be present in everyone. Rather, his or her behavior is a product of biological, social and environmental interplay. People are capable of showing the greatest love, compassion, and cooperation but their respective indefensible egos are also a hindrance in that regard. History is replete with excesses of both behavioral extremes thus conditioning human behavior in some instances on who the people are and the circumstances surrounding them. The attributes that push an individual to be “good” or “bad” can vary based on the person’s upbringing, the environment faced, or the perspective taken on the culture they assimilate.
For example, society has its own status quo in defining what qualifies as good conduct. Such values, rules, and even teachings all affect the choices made by individuals. Nevertheless, even in the presence of such structures, humans are likely to make mistakes such as avarice, hatred, or excessive apprehension. In some cases, these vices contribute to the perpetration of acts that inflict suffering on other people, whether deliberately or otherwise.
In the end, putting a label to a person as either good or bad is a reductionist approach. All human beings possess a mixture of good and bad qualities, and their behaviors depend on the people and things that surround them.
