Self-care should not be overlooked as it helps in looking after one’s health, physical or mental. To start practicing some measures of self-care, you should begin with a healthy diet and participating in physical activity as these increase one’s energy and moods. The same importance attached to food should be attached to sleep also and it is advisable to cover at least seven to nine hours of sleep every day. Doing this also stems some of the negative attitudes that are associated with mental illness. Involve yourself in practices such as meditation, writing a journal, or going out to cater for the emotional health. It is advisable to define some limits in order to keep some personal time so as to prevent feelings of overwhelm or stress. Enhance feelings of emotional wellbeing by seeking the company of people who matter to you, but try to be comfortable when alone. Finally, remember to take care of yourself: appreciate what you have done well, and allow yourself to rest whenever you need so, without guilt. Taking care of one’s self is not an act of selfishness. It is rather, a way of promoting one’s health.
