I shared about water treatment methods in my previous articles related to my working experience in water treatment field .Today I hope to share about another step of water treatment in water purification method with you. Most of Sri Lankan people have a big problem about how to identify treated water. We can’t confirm whether it is purified or polluted just by looking at water because Small invisible ions may be dissolved in it. Most of the areas in Sri Lanka having a problem of the taste of water. Calcium and Magnesium ions which are dissolved in water give this odd taste. This incident is simply called as the “ Hardness of water ”.

The water in some areas has some taste that not suitable for drinking. I think you may have experienced about that. Sometimes we have to buy water bottles for our drinking purposes from the market.

As well as when we add soap in to the hard water, we cannot see that soap dissolve in water because water does not make any lather with soap solution.

And also you may have hard white coating in kettle, showers and baskets. It is happened because permanent hardness of water.

Iron of magnesium and calcium presence as it is bicarbonate called temporary hardness of water and we can remove it by boiling water. And after we can see solid particle in bottom of kettle. And after filtering it, we can use for drink.

Iron of magnesium and calcium presence as it is chloride and Sulphates called permanent hardness of water and we cannot remove it by boiling water. So then we have to move for a complex procedure in order to remove the permanent hardness of water. Let’s have a look at about that complex procedure in my next article.
