Let me quickly describe some of my keywords as I will use them in this context. Here are they:

We Africans are mostly bilingual. However, in this context, I am not going to be referring to local languages. My references is to international (widely spread) languages.

Bilingual skill may extend beyond just verbal communication, it also involve the following skills:

  • Listening skills: this is the skills that enable one to understand spoken words accurately. Someone with this skill can understand tone and mood of the speaker.

  • Writing skills: this is the skill that enables one to communicate or express one's thought vividly in forms of text or handwriting.

As an individual, I would love to learn to speak french fluently because of my proximity with french speakers. I have not had any relationship with someone who speak other international languages such as Spanish, Portuguese, etc, except online.

However, as a parent, I would love my kids to understand Spanish in addition to English. I noticed that Spanish seems to weird some heavy influenced among develop nations more than french ( correct me if I am wrong). This is why I would love my kids to be proficient in Spanish language.
