Feline behavior is fascinating in that it offers the interplay of instincts and learned behavior. Reflecting their natural tendencies, cats are hunters by nature. They may stalk toys or people, crouching and pouncing onto targets. There is also a third behavior, grooming, which is performed for both hygiene purposes as well as for comforting oneself. The face of a cat is often applied to things or people, and various glands on both sides of the mouth are often used to mark territory.
While cats tend to be independent creatures, they do become attached to humans. If a cat is purring, it indicates satisfaction, while hissing or growling means that the cat is scared or angered. Also, information about their condition is in their body language, for instance, the position of a tail, their ear movements and so forth. All these issues are important, so it will be easier to relate with a cat to a human being.
