Activities of animal enrichment or activities that stimulate the mental or physical condition of animals whether on a captive or natural setting are referred to be such in the animal care perspective. Such behaviors may include but not limited to: foraging, hunting and problem solving. Others include puzzle feeders, interactive toys, and novel areas for exploration. Enrichment brings out the desire and activity level of the animal to a higher level which eventually means less boredom and stress for the animal. Additionally, it fosters traits such as curiosity and play which are inherent to animals. In order to receive more satisfaction and enthusiasm, animals are subjected to active enrichment which includes zoos, sanctuaries and even pet owners. This activities are important aspects of animal welfare and health as it counteracts negative behaviors associated with lack of stimulation or confinement such as pacing or over grooming.
