Animal communication is the transfer of information between individual animals using signals either sound, visual, body language, and even scent. This type of communication is important for survival in that it helped animals warn one another of threats, assert control, pursue partner and coordinate in various tasks. For example, birds sing to proclaim their territorial borders, bees dance to lead mates to food sources, and wolves voice their calls in order to summon the pack. While some of the signals are genetically determined, there are signals that some animals acquire and modify. There are indeed communicative systems in animals which are way more complicated than just basic sounds but nowhere close to the elaborateness of language and humanity itself. Knowledge of these mechanisms has significance in understanding some aspects of animal behavior and social relationships.
