In the last decades of the twentieth century the figures of biodiversity loss reached critical levels. Widespread habitat destruction resulting from anthropogenic urbanization, agricultural expansion and silviculture, leads to displacement of animals from their natural ranges. Global warming caused by greenhouse gas emissions ranges ecosystems, thereby making such conditions that many species fail to exist. Competition and poaching decimate populations beyond any hope for resurgence. Chemical constituents and waste matter also contribute to this damage as they pollute the habitat and the food supply. The introduction of exotic species by people throws off natural systems favoring these new arrivals. All these elements combine to create a complex situations which endanger many species with the added possibility of destabilizing all the ecosystems of our planet.
