Introduction

Hi everyone. Hope we're all good today. It's another contest to take part in today. Thanks to @steemdoctor1 for this important topic for the contest.
Join me as we go through this together.

What do you understand by the phrase "Say No to Drugs!". Why it is important?

Drugs are substances that change the chemistry of a person when taken. They have some sort of psychological effects when introduced into the body.
Drugs are powerful substances which can affect the way a person thinks, behave and relate with his/her fellow being.

Saying no to drugs therefore means saying no to abusing drugs. Most people recover when drugs are administered to them. But it has to be done the right way. Once an individual begins to take a certain kind of drugs without the administration of a pharmacist or doctor, he/she begins to abuse that drugs, and would soon depend on tht drug to be his helper.

This is not legal and health wise. Thus, it should be avoided. Saying no to drugs is saying no to addiction. This can be harmful to the victim(the addict) who can also become a threat to the society.

What are the main causes of the drug addiction? And tell me about a severe case of drug addiction which lead to serious results in the end.

The causes of drug addiction are:

Low self esteem: This is often felt by kids who do not really do well in school, or meet the standards of their parents. If a child keeps failing at what he/she does, but sees another excel, it can make her feel insignificant and disappointed. That's why we must not compare our kids with others but correct them with love.

  • Peer pressure: So many people want to belong to a group. And when this us finally done, they always want to act like their friends. This could bring negative influence on the child unless there's a quick intervention.

  • History of trauma: Teens and young adults who face physical abuse or rape are likely to take drugs as their last resort for happiness. The difficulties and pains they go through affect their psychological well-being.

  • Stress: A lot of tension here and there would make a person become a drug addict. Some take this to overcome the stress and act vibrantly which is as the result of being on drugs.

  • No parent-child relationship: The kind if relationships we have at home is as important as our health. Families need to take a time out to discuss on various topics including drugs. From this, a child would know what his/her family's stand is on drugs, and likely to make an informed decision.

I've seen someone who was half insane because of excessive taking of drugs. The end result was his departure because his lungs were damaged.

What are the best ways to control the wide spread of the drug addiction? Give some suggestions.

  • Parents/Guardians: Parents or guardians of young people should teach them from when the are kids, the effects of drugs. Charity begins at home, they say; education should also begin with our own children.

  • Schools: So many schools have added this to thier curriculum to be teaching kids about drugs. This is commendable, and should go on that way.

  • Peers: We should be careful the company of friends we keep. It is very important as we are influenced by what our friends do.

  • Government/Nom-governmental organisations: These organisations should provide empowerment for young people who are mostly the victims of drug addiction. It is one thing to talk about it and warn people against it, it is also another to help them get occupied with something.

  • Counselors: There are counselors in our various schools we can confide in. A wise and trustworthy counselor can help if we talk to them.

These and many more are ways to help curb this life threatening act in the society.

Conclusion

In a nutshell, people do not become addicts in a day. It goes through a process, and takes some days for them to become who they are. Let's contribute to help our societies by checking up on people. Talk to them about it, and show love with the little you can get for them, be it food, clothes or anything nice.
They need our care and support, and thus, we shouldn't discriminate against these people.

Would like to invite @anthiny002, @okere-blessing and @justiceanietie for this contest.
