Like they always say, sometimes life throw to us what we expect least and we just need to accept it as it comes. Today I will be participating in the Steem4Nigeria Community contest and be sharing my view how far this year have gone.
What are the things you think you should have done better.
One of the things I have actually come to discover is that this life is most of the time filled with a lot of moments that is determined based on the decision we take. Most of the time, whenever I reflect back on some decisions I made back, I always wish I should have done much more better and make more wise decisions. There are actually some areas of my life which assuming I knew years ago, it will have been much more better than before . Take for example, there are some decisions that I should have made but I was hesitating then. I was always thinking whether is it the right thing or the wrong time and at the end of the day, I didn't make those decisions.
There are some instances of my life which I strongly believe I should have taken some risk but probably due to fear of the decisions outcome, I eventually didn't make those decisions whcih later affected me greatly. There are lots of instances I wished I should have taken some risk. Instances like making some investments opportunities, some it might be because of a new skill I should learn or it can even be as simple as me stepping out of my comfort zone and at the end of the day, I didn't leave my comfort zone. It was really painful most of the time.
Another area I strongly believe I should have walked upon then is listening to myself. What do I mean by that? There are some instances that I should have taken some steps but I always wait for confirmation or validation. Sometimes those low voice within me telling me to do it which I refuse at the end of the day, I end up facing the consequences which should not be so. Well looking back, I have learnt and one of the things I wished is if only I can just return back to time and take some risk I should have taken, my life will have been much more better than it is right now.
How long did it take you to realize you missed that privilege or opportunity to do something better and how did you feel.
Some of these instances, some it takes years, some months and some even weeks for me to realise that I have just missed a particular opportunity that I should have make use of. Well most of the time, it takes years for me to finally see it so clear that I have missed out on those decisions I should have make. Well it does not usually come instantly but as time goes on and due to self reflection and growth, I begin to realise that what I should have done, I didn't do it and which makes it to lose opportunities.
Sometimes it comes with feelings of regret and frustration and those frustration can last for upto months. That constant feeling whereby you feel you should just return back to the time past but you can not because there is no more opportunity. It now becomes much more regretful when you know it will take years and years again for these certain type of opportunities to come your way again. But one of the things I have come to discover is that instead of me dwelling in regret, I learnt from the past and move on.
Take for example, there was this particular time I suppose to have taken a step in my career, but been afraid of the risk attached to the opportunity, I actually turn down the opportunity. It happens that my friends makes use of that opportunity and it really help their finances greatly. Sometimes I really wish I should have done much more than that but well, that is life sometimes. The feeling of regrets always come when you missed an opportunity that should have transform your life.
Give Advice to Your Reader Who Might Be Treading the Same Path as You
Looking back, I will say the golden advice I can give to people or my reader is that never been afraid to take risk. Don't let fear or failure to actually control you because it can make you not to take the risk you suppose to take because it can really affect you greatly. Yes I actually understand that life is filled with uncertainty but sometimes you just need to take the risk. Life is all about risk and the best way to learn is through your error.
If you are someone like me who is afraid of taking risk probably because you are afraid of failure, you need to understand that at every point, we will always face failure and that is why you need to position yourself. Sometimes you need to make mistakes so that you can learn much more better. There are actually instances that you need to learn from your experience and make sure that your life is moving forward no matter the failure you encounter.
I invite @lhorgic , @alexanderpeace and @okere-blessing to drop a very constructive comments on this post and also to participate in this contest.
