Anytime I hear of the word "Cardiovascular", my mind flies to the heart as the heart is termed Cardio while the vascular means blood vessels. It shows a system where blood is pumped and sends oxygen to the body which is used up and sends out waste in the form of sweat. So if you add exercise to this cardiovascular system, it becomes cardiovascular exercise.
This directly means you're exercising your heart to enable it to pump blood to your blood vessels 😁. Anyways, I'm not here to give details on what the cardiovascular system means. I'm after the exercise that helps impact the cardiovascular system. What exercise increases your heartbeat? Is it dancing too much, running for a long distance, cycling or climbing a high mountain?
These are the common exercises that increase our heartbeat. I can remember dancing to the point that I felt like gasping for breath because my heart beat was beating faster than normal. Does this call for alarm? No. It's actually a way the muscles in your heart get built up and the efficiency at which the heart pumps blood to the blood vessels in the body is impressive.
Asides pumping blood when put into work, it pumps oxygen to the body muscles as both heartbeat and breathing rates increase when these exercises are done. This is a video of me dancing to the point that I was tired. Could this be a form of cardiovascular exercise? You'll soon find out as I do the programmes given me in this challenge.
Programs that target the cardio |

In this task, we're told to record a 5 minute video of running in place and doing aerobic dance. This relates aerobics with cardio. How interconnected this is. I love the whole system link.
Asides these two programs specified for us to work on, there are various exercises related to cardiovascular system. Climbing mountain, bicycle kicks, russian twists etc. So for the purpose of detail and evidence of task completion, I did a 5 minute video that shows how I did running in place and aerobics...
Programs | duration | rest period | repetition |
---|---|---|---|
Running in place | 1 min | 10 seconds | 1 min |
Aerobic dance | 2 min 50 sec. | non stop | no rep |
From the video, you can evidently see how I performed this task by running in place. Running in place requires much energy to accomplish. Even when I was trying to follow the beatings of the song to run in a particular position, I felt my breath in cloud 9. My heart was pumping because I was just stationary in one position, doing locomotion. As my heartbeat was increasing gradually, my breath was also increasing more than normal. I could hear my heart do;
Lub-Dub, Dub-Dub... 5x
Lub-Dub, Dub-Dub 5x
And my breath;
Hhh, Hhh Hhh...5x
Hhh, Hhh Hhh...5x
You won't hear my heartbeat and breathing rate because of the video. I did running in place for one minute and then rested for 10 seconds to reduce the pressure a bit and then took it on again with full force. My hands swung back and forth as though I were running dynamically. It was a therapeutic session for me before the aerobic dance.

You needed to see my facial expressions when doing the aerobic dance. I started with shaking my body up and down with my hands up and I did this at a fast pace to increase my breathing rate which helps improve the functioning of the lungs and also improve the muscles of the heart, circulating blood efficiently to other parts of the body.
The following shows what I mean from when I started the running in place which needed maximum endurance to when I was in the process and when I was done. I'll call it metamorphosis 😂
Initiation | ............🚶🚶 |
---|---|
Step up | Heart begins to beat fast and muscles expands |
Moving on | Panting and increased breathing rate |
Functioning | The heart pumps blood and sends oxygen to the body which is used up to release energy by the body cells |
Output | Sweat.... Released energy |
After the aerobic dance which I did with so much energy and positivity, I took to dancing to make the happiness and energy 100%. How did I feel after this exercise? Let me tell you what happened when I was out that day......
What is your overall feelings as you carried out the programs. Did it build more endurance in you? |

To be honest, I was depressed at first. I didn't really feel like doing anything other than just lying down on my bed, fiddling with my phone. I got up and decided to go for a workout and perform some exercises. Thoughts upon thoughts fill my mind when I'm home doing nothing physical. When I stepped out to a fitness center to practice this cardiovascular exercise, the song played was a big motivational to me.
I've been postponing this program since Monday until I gave it a try on Friday. I did running in place and also did the aerobic dance. To be honest, I felt light. All those thoughts that were on my mind, making me depressed in a sense tend to disappear into thin air. I couldn't remember them because my mind was in a state of mental rehabilitation.
You can see the smile on my face compared to when I first came to the fitness centre. I then came up with a story that the exercise I did that say transformed my depressed mind into a state of mental stability, free from unnecessary anxieties and financial problems.
So my overall feelings are explained in what I just drafted. I felt light and energetic. There's this kind of fatigue I usually undergo which makes me sleep unnecessarily.
I felt energised and that fatigued tend to wave. I saw the need to be doing this kind of exercise on a weekly basis. When it comes to heart beat, I felt an expansion in my heart's muscles that makes me feel like running long distances without panting. That expansion made it possible for me to endure the compressed air that comes with doing cardiovascular exercises.

That's how I felt though. Even though the exercise is generally for the heart build up, I felt as though it affected all parts of my body. I didn't know exercise makes one smile. When you smile, you increase the chances of building some growth hormones in your body. Even though I felt tired at some point, I felt satisfied because I've benefited from the exercise.
My endurance level was put into the test not until I saw that when your mind is free, you'll be light and you'll be able to endure certain things. **Ohkay, I was panting within at the initial stage of running in place but I later came to like the whole process.
It was 5 minutes and I was like, I'll increase my heart beat for 5 minutes with 10 seconds rest? I actually built more endurance by programming my mind to achieve a particular goal or target. If an athlete is running and has a prize awaiting him at the end of the race, he would endure no matter what happens.
So I set a prize goal for myself saying I'll beat Guinness world record if I can hit that 5 minutes without giving up in both aerobics and running in place. You know rest time was just 10 seconds and aerobics was 2:50 minutes. So the whole weight was on the aerobics. I had to endure. I freed my mind to avoid clustering thoughts and doubts of not being able to complete the program.
This one may sound comical but I also programmed my mind to the fact that if I carry out this task well, I'll get a good grade. This was my motivation to endure and improve on the given task.
How did these programs impact your mental health? |

People have mental problems because of too many thoughts, anxieties, financial problems and the likes of them which leads to depression. Reasons why fitness is encouraged and Cardiovascular exercise play a vital role because when you're depressed or have mental issues, your heart is affected. Your blood pressure may rise or may drop low.
Through these cardiovascular exercises, I've been able to expand my heart muscles and also improved its efficiency in pumping blood which sends good signals to my brain and helps build up my mental health.
As I said at the onset, my kind was crowded with lots of thoughts initially but as I did those exercises especially the aerobic dance, I forgot about all that I thought. My mind was solely on how to do these exercises and I thought of that the whole day and what I accomplished. I felt a big relief knowing that these exercises help chase depression away when you come out where people are and get motivated to do the exercise.

Doing it at home may not motivate you that much and your mind would still be clouded with such thoughts, still affecting your mental health. That's the reason I went to the fitness area to carry out this program. My mind was as free as that of a bird who has lesser thoughts. All I could think of that day after reaching home and having my breakfast was the aerobic dance and how I shook my waist......
All things being equal, I'll go there again tomorrow and recreate what I did on Friday. Health is wealth when the heart is healthy and the lungs are breathing. It tells my brain which improves my mental health in knowing I have a life to live and that life must be backed by a stress repellant - exercise
I invite @alli001, @okere-blessing @mesola

Wow, you did an excellent job, I commend your strength to carry this exercise till the end . I love how you steadily enjoyed the program starting from the running in place to dance. Seeing you on-top of the pole skipped my heart. What if you mistakenly fall please I think that one is very expensive. I wish you good luck dear boss.
