You were a test country just like the Netherlands is. You truly believe the idea is to have a good infrastructure and it works?
Many are always in debts because they spent what they don't have and what to think about a blackout? No power no way to pay and you can leave the groceries behind in the shop!
During all those years (over 30) I saw all types of debit cards come and go. The "chip knip" in my country was never successful and removed. The credit card never been a success and many shops with us don't accept it.
Free choice? We are forced no matter the age. Babies receive a debit card if parents open a saving account for them. Ten year old walk with a debit card to pay the bus and scam increases (children are asked for "help", their debit card, bankaccount and in the end parents can pay for the scam, damage while the government is responsible).
ATMs are getting rare and the bank complains if you take "too much" cash (there's a max set and if more you have to ask permission from your bank! Permission to get your own money.)
Everything should be checked (government/Brussel/WEF) which can't in a world where people pay with cash.
On the market sellers use mobile payment machines and so do those from aid funds. If you say "I don't have coins" they push the payment engine underneath your nose and of course ask for a higher amount than you can afford. It results in fewer willing to give.
What about children? You can not give them a few coins? Should granny transfer the money to buy an ice cream? Will the child receive it or the parent use it?
How about the beggars and poor? Should they stand on the streets with a payment machine as well and pay for these services 40 euros or more per month, can we give 1 kilo flour or should we let them die?
Many more people will be forced into owning more bankaccounts (schools for example) and bankaccounts charge fees.
What worries me more is the fact people have no idea about the value of money and as a child you should learn what it looks like, how to save and how, when to spend to stay out of trouble. What is in the wallet (pocket) is visable and bailiffs should be avoided.
I see a huge change during those years. Debt is normal. Those who are in debt own nothing, are a slave of the bank and government.
The next step: digital currency and next digital currency with restrictions (on what to spend it).
What is the plus?
I rather lose my wallet with some cash than my debit or credit card with all my money! Since the c19 nonsense all banks started with contactless payment and it can no longer we switched off. So who has the debit card can pay.

Talk is of implanting a chip on the back of the hand to access acoounts. The risk then is they will cut your hand off. :>)

They already do that in Sweden and the students cheer about it, to be chipped like a dog. Itmakes me wonder about the IQ level.
Chips are not without risks and these make you traceable as well.
Chips like these are also contactless payments and no way you can see/check what you spent.
Also if it comes to contactless payments scammers have tools to use your card. hey
Scammers, tonly need to stay close to someone and take the money. How quickly will you notice that if you are among others?
Not everyone has internet (not me) and even if will you notice the next notification?
For sure if they believe you are the jackpot they drag you to the ATM (like they already do), make you transfer your fortune or take your hand.
A human's life frequently is worth not even 10$, good enough to kill for. ☹️

Best thing is to minimize acting within the sphere of activity the unscrupulous are creating. It is like a disease.
