There is an opinion that people are divided into "larks" and "owls". The first ones get up early, are active and productive in the morning. Others get up late, prefer to work in the evening, and can stay up late at night.
An uninformed layman might think that there are some innate or natural inclinations behind this. Is it possible that this is so? What are the factors shaping this phenomenon?
How many of us rise in the summer before sunrise? Go to bed at nine in the evening? How many of us wake up easily and joyfully? And, without being naive, they meet the new day with a smile, expecting new achievements, because they know that circumstances obey them? Is it possible to be among them?
We have to admit that among the inhabitants, leading an urban lifestyle, the number of larks is decreasing.
Imagine having a hearty dinner of fried pork with spicy ketchup, then spending the whole evening “in the family circle” in front of the TV, sipping beer with movies with scenes of violence. Do you think that the next morning something will be able to wake you up at five in the morning before sunrise? Do you think the next morning you will get up willingly and joyfully, driven by creative aspiration?
Do you think there are any "innate" tendencies that induce people to use alcohol, coffee, other drugs, overeat before bed, watch violent movies, listen to rock music?
Of course, everyone can choose the lifestyle that suits him. Only, in our opinion, it is desirable that this choice be really deliberate.
Have you really chosen the lifestyle that you lead? Or do you in some way act by inertia, due to external circumstances, or because others live this way? Have you really chosen the daily routine that you follow?
Among the wide range of opinions about what a daily routine should be based on, there are two extremes. Some say that you need to follow a strict routine established by volitional effort. Others believe that it is necessary to follow natural urges and rhythms. (And we know that, as a rule, we are talking about the rhythms of life force.)
The truth in this case, as in many others, in our opinion is in the middle.
The idea of strictly following discipline is in itself quite reasonable and worthy of implementation. However, if you do not know the flows of your own life force, do not know its character and rhythms, then in many cases you will act against these flows. You will have to fight with your own life force. And if your will is stronger, you will last longer, if weaker - less. But in any case, it will be a struggle with one's own biology.
Perhaps you have to adhere to a routine, for example, for the sake of work. And, perhaps, this routine conflicts with the nature of your vitality ... When this kind of conflict has existed for a long time, then mental and even functional disorders are not excluded.
And in some cases, you will not be able to adhere to your chosen routine at all. When the will is weak, there are no compelling circumstances, and the life force is not controlled.
So, if you are using drugs; alcohol, which is found in many foods, such as yeast bread; sugar, which is found in almost all products of the modern food industry; if you watch TV all evening, this is a case when your own will is weak and your vitality is too yin. If at the same time you do not have compelling reasons for this, it will be very difficult for you to force yourself to get up at 5 am every day. You will have to use violence against yourself. You may not be able to do this at all until you get rid of some bad habits.
The idea of following natural (biological) rhythms, listening to the body, is also very attractive in itself. No need to force yourself. You just follow your needs. Go to bed when you want, get up when you want.
However, the life force is blind, devoid of intelligence. Left to herself, she will play a cruel joke with you. Not being controlled by you, it will become controlled by someone or something else. Therefore, refusing to control your own life force, one day you may find yourself under the influence of a random combination of external factors that you cannot control at all, or do not even know about them. This is not a very enviable position.
Even your own (natural) rhythms are complex and change over time. This means that the time of your morning rise will constantly shift, and your entire daily routine will have to be floating. This is well known, for example, to speleologists. When they lose touch with the natural rhythm of day and night in a cave, the daily rhythm of their activity can shift quite significantly.
Seasonal and local differences in natural rhythms are also very significant. If, for example, you coordinate your routine with the sunrise, then in the middle lane you need to get up at 5 am in the summer, and at 9 in the winter. Around the Arctic Circle in winter you can not get up at all. The latter is already unacceptable for the "larks".
Acute critical events requiring the mobilization of vitality, or, on the contrary, special long-term chronic states of the psyche, obvious or emerging diseases - all this has a significant impact on your biological needs, the nature and rhythms of vitality. And all this already takes the body out of the circle of rhythms and needs that are natural for it.
But the most unpleasant thing is that the life force of an ordinary person, leading an urban lifestyle, is very little consistent with his own natural rhythms, with his natural needs. This is mainly due to the “culture” of drug use, television and destructive music.
Since there are flavors with a bright taste, the modern man in the street can no longer distinguish the natural taste of products. It is the same with "natural" needs and biological rhythms. Their place is taken by artificially formed addictions, habits and an unnatural daily routine.
