The academic world cannot be separated from writing activities. From school to college level, students will get writing assignments in various forms, both formal and informal. For example papers, research reports, theses, theses and so on. While in informal form in the form of short stories, serialized stories, or other popular writings.
These writings are published frequently. In a small scope, the results of these writings are displayed in the classroom or on the school walls so that all school members can read them.
In a larger scope, these writings will be documented in large libraries or published in local and national print media. This of course has positives and negatives.
On the positive side, all readers can gain knowledge and benefits from the writing. Authors can also get awards from publishing their writings. On the other hand, these writings can backfire. Good and unique writing is often the object of theft by irresponsible parties. This is certainly detrimental to the author.
The act of stealing this writing is commonly referred to as an act of plagiarism. In plagiarism, plagiarism takes without permission part or all of the victim's writing and acknowledges it as his own result or idea. This disgraceful act must be avoided and considered inappropriate, especially by academic practitioners who should produce original works that can make a positive contribution to the world of education.
Plagiarism is an act intentionally or unintentionally in obtaining or trying to obtain credit or value for a scientific work, by quoting part or all of the work and or scientific work of another party that is recognized as a scientific work, without citing the source accurately and sufficiently.
Plagiarism is taking someone else's work and making it look like your own. Plagiarism is defined as taking other people's ideas and then using those ideas in their own work without giving credit to the original author.
It can be concluded that plagiarism is an act either intentionally or unintentionally taking part or all of another person's work or writing to be considered as the result of his work without the permission of the original author.
The author publishes one article or the results of his research in more than one editorial publication or journal. The author recycles his own scientific writings/works so that they can be published in different journals, even though the essence is the same. Self plagiarism is allowed if the new work produced undergoes changes. This means that old works are a source of creating new works that are bigger and provide new benefits.
Doing plagiarism is certainly not without reason. There are factors that trigger actors to plagiarize rather than produce their own original work. The causes of plagiarism can be concluded as follows:
Lack of ideas and lazy to think
Articles are ideas that are put into written form so that others can read them.
In other words, writing becomes a medium to transfer ideas from the writer to the reader. But sometimes when faced with writing tasks, people are often unable to generate new ideas. Worse yet, they are lazy just to think.
On the other hand, the task remains to be completed. This is what triggers plagiarism of other people's work. This method is considered the fastest and most practical way to solve problems without considering the risks
So it can be concluded that plagiarism is an act that has no positive value at all. Perpetrators not only lie to others but also themselves.
This action is detrimental to many people, especially the original author because the idea or ideas have been stolen.
