It loomed. Taking another step threatened to pull him closer. Dread filled him. The barn door seemed to engulf him, growing larger as he inched closer. Behind the building, he knew that the sun was about to touch the horizon; soon it would be a firey orange ball rising above him.
The darkness encompassed him as the stench of hay and animals assailed his nostrils. All the work he’d have to do to restore the fresh clean hay! Day after day, week after week, this never-ending cycle. The longing within him for something different didn’t subside.
Why couldn’t he finish the book he just couldn’t put down? Why couldn’t he explore the curiosity of the horizon?
Someday. Someday the boundary of this building would not pull him in. Someday the horizon would capture his fading silhouette. Someday, but not today.
