The Diary Game: the Impact of fast food on our body

Hello everyone! My name is Cathy, short for Catherine. I'm new to this community. I am studying biology and nature sciences. My today's learning subject was malnutrition, especially eating fast food.

DISCLAIMER: I'm not calling a reader to become vegan etc. :) And I know there's sometimes no ability to eat something else than fast food. For individual nutrition you need to consult your doctor.

To be honest, I've never eaten fast food until 14 because of the health conditions and my own dislike. It was really weird for me to see some of my pals eating fast food frequently. Then I've been travelling a lot, so I had to eat what I was offered.

Recently I've learned that some chemicals used in fast food production may even cause addiction. So, let's move to the topic.

What makes fast food attractive?

Numerous people think fast food is more convenient: both financially and practically. But, e.g. if we compare the prices for market vegetables with fast food, we'll most probably find that they're much cheaper in the long run. (Tried and tested!).
Referring to the time spend in the kitchen, there are many types of meals that can be preserved for several days and taken out for lunch at work.

Why does it seem tastier?

The mix of fat, sugars and sodium make a taste. Different kinds of sodium, such as monosodium glutamate (MSG) suppress the hormone that tells you're full. It doesn't cause severe addiction, but is does cause "cronical" low satiety and increased desire to eat.

How does it affect our body?

The most common effect is bloating and puffiness. They're caused by hign sodium (salt) intake of junk food. The other common one is bad gut and skin condition such as gastritis, colitis, nausea, acne and increased skin and hair oiliness.
Fats used is fast food production are not native to our organisms (unlike plant and animal fats), thus they cause our endocrine system to produce more cholesterol.

In the long run, junk food addiction can cause severe digestive problems, heart diseases and even eating disorders. That's why it's highly recommended to replace it with healthy meals taken in just a sufficient amount for our body to perform daily actions.
