Our way of cooling down

Today I went for a walk a little late, near my house in some green areas that are part of the national park, this time I ran and walked, as I am starting again I walk more.

I take this opportunity to explain how the body regulates its temperature; some people may not know it.

Did you know that the salty taste of sweat is due to the presence of mineral salts?

Sweat, which we also popularly know as "perspiration", is formed mainly by water, but also has small amounts of other chemicals such as ammonia, urea, mineral salts and lactate. And the first thing you have to keep in mind to understand this is that both ammonia and urea are waste that our own body produces when processing proteins.

Sweat is produced in our body through the sweat glands in the skin, which are distributed practically throughout the entire body. although most sweat glands are found in regions such as the scalp, face, armpits (of course), the palms of our hands and also the soles of our feet.

When we run, when we exercise, sweat serves as a kind of "safety valve" so that our body can maintain a constant temperature, which is in the range of 36.6 degrees Celsius, even when the outside environment is much hotter. For all runners, and in general for all athletes, this process is extremely important, since when we practice any physical activity our body increases energy consumption, which also increases internal temperature.

And there sweating comes into play, allowing thermoregulation. But that's not all: sweat also allows a natural detoxification of our body. It happens that, along with urine, sweat is a way for toxins and waste to escape from our body. Among them, for example, urea and lactic acid, two of the substances that we lose when we sweat. But because attention, unfortunately, are not the only ones.

We also have to take into account that in addition to losing the liquid, the obvious liquid, the obvious liquid that we eliminate with sweat, we are also losing mineral salts and substances that are very valuable for the proper functioning of our body and also for our health. Among them are chlorides, sodium, magnesium and potassium, which is why it must be replaced.
