I thought about it and understand what you mean but came to the conclusion my answer is: No, I think it is not.
Steemit was and still is an American playform and the language is English and so it the world's language. Also the newcomer speaks English so a welcome in that language will make one feel more welcome.

Mistakes made by a translator will also exist if the receiver has to translate. Misunderstanding always exists even if we speak the same language.

Perhaps greeters should only greet those who speak the same language?
