HOLY CRAP! I don't think I have dropped a faster insta-buy for a game in my life! This XCOM Chimera Squad just hit the internet... and WOW... XCOM (and XCOM2) developers Firaxis can't do anything wrong from my point of view. I love their new take on the XCOM franchise and their last entry (with the War of Chosen Expansion) just knocks it right out of the park! Which reminds me... I've got a review cued up to write for that....
Anyway, XCOM Chimera Squad is more of story based entry... there is much that is unknown about it right now, but you are playing as a sort of alien/human police force that is trying to keep the peace in the newfound peace after XCOM2. City 31 is supposed to be the model of the Alien/Human co-operation... but something tells me that this is going to be setting up the events leading in the launch of XCOM3! Oh wow!
Anyway, there is much more emphasis on the character and story development in this version of XCOM. XCOM has always been about a open world with an emergent story that follows a larger story arc. Here, it is hard to tell if everything will be scripted... but it appears that it won't be quite like that. Instead of playing out over the entire globe, you are chasing mission throughout the City 31.... I guess there will be an overarcing narrative to tie in the disparate missions.
There are new tactical options as well, with a new Breach mechanic that emphasis the more urban warfare setting of the game. This time, you are the hard-hitting strike team... and not the scrappy underdog!
Much of it seems to run on a heavily modded engine of the XCOM2 War of the Chosen expansion... however, I wonder if it is a test run of the XCOM3 engine as well?
Needless to say, for any fan of XCOM, this is definitely a game to drop a tenner on! It is currently on 50% sale for a couple weeks! I can't wait!
In the meantime... I have a review of XCOM2: War of the Chosen to write!

Even without the Bitcoin it is a great package deal! Although, I really understand their inability to accept volatile currencies.. not the initial exchange worth, but the problem with business and tax reporting... it makes for a terrible experience at the moment, but it is improving!
