Where on Wednesday thirty four: Picnics and cream buns

in hive-174578 •  5 years ago

There was a time when I wouldn't have delayed the eating-phase of this cream bun long enough to take a picture of it...But that was pre-blog, back ye olden days. These days I (usually) manage to muster up the will power to delay eating for the few seconds it takes to grab a photo...But only just.

My wife sent this picture to me as I was driving to work this morning with the words...

"Weekend"

...in the text field; Her way to suggest we take a drive in the countryside this weekend. The cream bun is all I need to understand completely where she intends for us to go...The Barossa Valley.

The Barossa Valley is a world-renowned wine region and is filled with many vineyards and wineries that win awards all over the world. It is also a legit area in general, full of cafe's, restaurants and bakeries and amazing views. It also happens to be very close to the small town in which I grew up, so it has always seemed like my back yard so to speak, as I spent a lot of time there.

It's a great spot to be, a place we can hit some dirt roads in our 4x4 and find a few isolated places near a creak for a picnic.

We're not wine people and so don't get too excited about that aspect of it although we value our solitude so are always seeking a nice little spot to throw out a rug and lay in the sun together chatting, listening to music, reading and of course, having a picnic. I have a spot in mind; A grassy spot beside a little creek, shaded by old gum trees, and far enough away that we won't see anyone else.

So, judging by Faith's text this morning it looks like that's on the agenda for this Sunday and whilst it's only Wednesday I'm looking forward to it...I'm already there, mentally, to be honest. Lol.

We'll pack a few things to take of course, cold cuts, cheeses, olives and spreads plus some crusty bread but we always stop off at one the most famous bakeries in the area, the Lyndoch Bakery and grab some treats, as per the picture; This Sunday will be no different.

My week, in real life, hasn't been too bad so far but I'm glad it's hump day. I'm sitting in my office writing this and a glance at my calendar shows that the back-end of the week is less busy than the front so I'm looking forward to an easy run into the weekend, and a picnic in the country with my wife. Good times.

We've had a rugged week on steem and I'm hoping some of the issues will straighten out in the next few days. It's been great to see the community rally around the platform and take action. Let's hope we can make a difference.

Enjoy hump day y'all, and stay strong.

Haha! Yeah, just look at that thing mate! It's a Kitchener Bun. Used to be called a Berliner but in World War Two was changed because we were at war with Germany. Lord Kitchener was a British military legend so that's what they changed it to. It stuck. I don't really care what they call it though, that pastry, sugar, strawberry jam and cream combination is pure gold.

I have a tendency to start eating before remembering to take a picture. Oh well, a picture with some food still counts as a food picture, right? :)

Haha...I've been known to take pictures of empty plates and simply describe what was there. Lol.

Yum cream bun😀

Back off, it's mine! Lol.

Looks bloody good huh bro? I'll have my face in one of those this Sunday afternoon.

Lol yes it looks so yummy and hope you enjoy the next one you stuff down your gullet on the weekend 😀

Cream bun looks tasty XD

Creampuffs are my favourite though (and I have one character that would just steal them because she loves them so much, she'd probably nick off with that one too actually XD)

Sounds like an awesome weekend coming up :D

Haha, I don't trust anyone unless they like cream buns, eclairs, puffs etc. Lol.

Should be a good day Sunday. Weather looks good too. 26, partially cloudy. Perfect. (For cream bun eating.)

Some nice, creamy, hot buns that you have there 😉. Dirty jokes aside though, those actually look rather scrumptious. I've never seen them before, so I'm definitely putting it on my bucket list.

  • stuff hot buns in mouth
  • ...

You're a devil...👿

😂

Oh man sir galenkp, The Barossa Valley sounds like a dream-come-true! I'm a wine lover so I could spend days in that region.

I'll check this link and probably have dreams about it tonight! I hope the fires didn't reach there? I heard on the news yesterday that the fires were out, I reckon that's why we haven't heard any news about them. Over a billion animals killed they say? I didn't hear a figure on the number of homes destroyed.

Some of the Barossa vineyards were destroyed, not a lot though. Yes, fires are out and the rebuilding has started...There was flooding in between though. I'm not sure how many homes were destroyed in all, thousands though.

So sad about so many homes and businesses being destroyed, the cost has to be in the many billions.
