Thinking too much is not good because it can make us stuck and unable to act. It's like going in circles, and it's not helpful. It not only stops us from growing but also holds us back.

We have some tricks that can help you stop the bad habit of thinking too much.

1. Be open to new information only.

When you start thinking again about things you've already decided, you get caught in a loop of unnecessary thoughts. Trust that you did the right thing and only change your mind if you have new information.

2. Know that finding new ways to think and solving problems are not the same.

Thinking and trying out different ideas might seem like problem-solving, but it's not. It's like being on a merry-go-round. Learn to see when you're rethinking something and stop thinking it's helping you solve the problem. Move on.

3. Remember the 90/10 rule.

This rule helps you see how much you should care about yourself. It says 90% should come from you, and only 10% from what others think. Some people mix it up and think 90% of their worth comes from other people's opinions. This makes them worry too much.

4. Look for good intentions in everything.

People who overthink often believe there's something bad behind everything – like a misunderstanding, someone being mean, or a bad result. Try to think that most things are done with good or neutral intentions. It's usually true, so don't overthink.

5. Accept that you don't know everything.

You can't predict the future or read other people's minds. Don't even try.

6. Be okay with not knowing everything.

When you don't know something, your brain may make up things. Many of us would rather be unhappy than not know something. False ideas can fill your thoughts. A wise person once taught me how to deal with not knowing: NGO.

  • Notice not knowing and don't overreact.
  • Accept that you don't know and things change.
  • Realize that not knowing can make you more creative and strong.
  • Don't make small things into big problems.

7. Stop making small issues seem like disasters. This won't help.

8. Get out of your head and have fun.

Get out of your thoughts and enjoy what's happening around you. Our minds can be dark and anxious, right?

9. Think about the chances.

Thinking too much often comes from worrying about the worst thing happening, but it's probably not likely. Ask yourself, "How likely is the bad thing really going to happen?"

10. Think about the real cost of being wrong.

We often re-think things because we're scared of making a mistake. Ask yourself, "What's the real cost if I'm wrong?" If it's not a big deal, you can move on without looking back.
