Sleepology is an interesting branch of knowledge that helps individuals understand how their bodies and brains restore themselves during night rest. Sleep is divided into cycles, with two main stages: also referred to as slow wave sleep or non-rapid eye movement (NREM) and the active, at times vivid, or rapid eye movement (REM). NREM function in revitalizing bodily tissues as well as assistive functions such as immune repair, muscle synthesis and regeneration while REM directs cognition related to such as memory and dream formation.
New studies show that sleep is not just about energy, it is about mood, learning capacity, and even the metabolism. It reveals that prolonged sleep loss is associated with such diseases as heart disease, diabetes, and depression. Scientists have also observed that while asleep, the brain may also process toxic waste products, chemicals that accumulate while awake.
Learning about sleep and how to modify its quality impacts the whole well-being of a person emphasizing on a powerful biological concept of sleep.
This post is very important. I am not giving importance to the sleep cycle and there are days that I am not mentally focused at all. Personally I have to start understanding that resting is important to keep ourselves fit and always at our best
