Cybersecurity is going nowhere soon, and it's important that we prepare for more advanced attacks as technology develops further. The development experience in the technological world seems to have no bounds or ends as new innovation keeps springing up in a twinkle of an eye. So therefore, it is important that firms invest in network security of their firm because once a hacker breaks into a network, there is no telling what they could do to cripple such a firm.

Below are some of the vital tools which a firm could invest in to keep hackers out, they are:

  • FIREWALL
  • SIEM
  • NIPS/ NIDS
  • Anti-Malware

Firewall: is a tool used to set rules for what is expected to come in and go out of an organisation system. This tool comes in very handy as it filters away commands and requests from authorised channels and helps properly manage the data that leaves and comes into the organisation. To me, a firewall is the first line of defence to the organisation's network, and once it is breached, it will take the help of an extra set of tools to keep the hacker at bay and keep the firms' data at arm's length.

SIEM: Monitoring network activities is a big way to discover an unusual pattern and a big way to know if a hacker is in the system. Security information and event management (SIEM) constantly monitor and report events. When unusual activity is detected, it raises an alarm or sends an alert to the person who could do something about these unusual activities. The SIEM is a very important network monitoring tool as it gives the firm an overview of everything in its system. Aside from monitoring events, the SIEM also logs activities and raises a red flag if a hacker is in the system.

NIPS/ NIDS: Network Intrusion Prevention a system is a powerful tool for Network intrusion detection and prevents attacks by isolating the flagged issues. Unlike NIDS, which detects, NIPS detects and executes the necessary changes. NIPS is a powerful tool which most organisations place directly after the firewall on the network; this way, if a command escapes the firewall, the NIPS will be there to read and evaluate the command not to be harmful.

Anti-Malware: This is one thing everyone is quite familiar with. It is one of the most popular endpoint solutions as it helps to track for viruses and neutralize viruses while keeping hackers away. Anti-malware is important on any network as it help scans all files, codes, commands and other documents to avoid an infected network. The network being infected would lead to hackers having safe passage into an organisation's network as the systems won't work optimally as it is supposed to.
