At the session, former British Prime Minister and United Nations Special Envoy for Education, Gordon Brown, expressed his surprise that more than 400 million children are leaving school permanently at the age of 11 to 12, and about 800 million children are leaving educational institutions without any qualifications.
The UN's 2030 goal is to 'ensure inclusive and quality education for all and promote lifelong learning.'
Audrey Azoulay, the director-general of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, said, "Not only massive investment, but also reform of the education system is important for us."
Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammad said, 'This International Education Day must call for action so that quality education for all becomes a reality rather than a future goal.
