I am excited to participate in the contest "I am intolerant to..." organized by @mariami. In this post,I'll be sharing my personal experiences with some popular foods that I just can't eat. From my struggles as a child to the issues I still have today, I hope my story helps others understand the challenges of living with food intolerances.
Growing up, I was used to eating simple, mildly seasoned food at home. This was my comfort zone, and anything beyond that was challenging for me.
Over time, I discovered that my body simply could not tolerate certain types of foods, specifically spicy foods, fish, and junk foods like burgers and shawarma. These foods don't just cause me discomfort they can lead to body pain and even trigger migraine attacks.
From childhood, I’ve been a relatively weak person. My health has always been fragile, and I spent much of my time in hospitals. Because of this, I never had the chance to experiment with different foods like other children might.
My delicate health made it necessary to stick to simple, non irritating foods, which might explain why my body reacts so negatively to anything spicy or rich background of being constantly unwell has influenced my eating habits , and to this day, I avoid foods that could cause me any discomfort.
Spicy foods are quite popular in many cultures, and for many people, they are a source of joy and flavor. However, for me, spicy food is something I have to avoid. The moment I take a bite of anything too spicy, I experience an intense burning sensation on my tongue, followed by itching.
This makes it impossible for me to continue eating. Beyond the discomfort in my mouth, spicy foods also cause me stomach pain that can last for hours. It's as though my body has never adapted to these intense flavors because I was raised on milder, more bland dishes.
Fish is another food that I simply cannot tolerate the numerous health benefits associated with it, fish has always been a problem for me. The smell alone is enough to make me feel uneasy, but the real issue starts when I eat it.
Even a small portion causes me to feel nauseous and uncomfortable. The texture and taste are things I have never been able to get used to, and every time I try to eat fish, it ends up causing me more distress than it's worth.
Junk food, including popular items like burgers and shawarma, is another category of food that I struggle with. While my friends enjoy these foods regularly, I can only manage to take a single bite, and even that is just to satisfy them.
After taking the first bite, I usually start feeling uncomfortable and sick, so I can't eat any more. Sometimes, the discomfort is so bad that I feel like I’m going to vomit. I try to feel better by drinking something cold, but that doesn’t always help. The only way for me to avoid this is to stop eating junk food and stick to homemade meals that I know my body can handle.
Besides the discomfort these foods cause, I also get migraines. I've noticed that eating certain foods from restaurants can bring on a migraine. The strong spices, unfamiliar ingredients, or maybe even preservatives in these foods seem to trigger a reaction in my body, leading to bad headaches. This has made me even more sure that it's better for me to avoid eating out and stick to food that won't cause me any pain.
Living with these food intolerances isn't easy, especially when it means I can't eat foods that others enjoy without a problem. But I've learned that it's more important to take care of my comfort and health than to try to fit in or please others.
That's it from today's blog I hope you will like it. With best wishes ❤️. Now I like to invite @tammann, @yenny47 and @neelofar to participate in this amazing contest.
