Food culture helps understanding a place. Hong Kong is a place with mixture of distinctive Western/Eastern culture, which also greatly influenced our food culture.
William Somerset Maugham said it well, "All happiness begins with a blissful breakfast." Our breakfast is a combination of Chinese and Western styles. Like my breakfast today: Chinese-style noodles + Western-style luncheon meat. They appeared to be irrelevant. Indeed, it is surprisingly match and delicious.
The Hong Kong-style milk tea (commonly known as "silk stocking milk tea"), which has appeared since 1940, is the outcome of a century-old evolution from English milk tea of the colonial era to the present popular beverage of Hong Kong. The tea-making technique is even listed on the representative list of the Intangible Culture Heritage of Hong Kong.
This is my breakfast, and you?
