Despite having seen countless churches in Italy, St. Peter’s Basilica still leaves me in awe. The central area of the basilica is currently closed off for restoration in October, but the remaining details are well worth exploring. The sculptures, in particular, stand out; their lifelike forms and movements give them a unique blend of humanity and divinity. There’s also the figure of Death holding an hourglass, whose presence up close evokes a powerful sense of gravity.
