I made this photography post on April 7 2019 when I was visiting Tampere. These shots were taken along the Tammerkoski rapid in the city center. The rapid was formed 5000 years ago when post-glacial rebound caused Lake Näsijärvi to stop discharging into the northwest. The water had to go somewhere and it broke through the esker towards the south. This was the birth of Lake Pyhäjärvi on the south side, which discharges into the Gulf of Bothnia via the river Kokemäki in the city of Pori about 120 km to the west.
The Swedish king Gustav III founded the city of Tampere (Tammerfors) in 1779. During the 19th century, it developed into a major cotton manufacturing center. As the industries in Tampere diversified, the city became a major industrial center. Today, it is the second most populous urban center in the country. There are two universities and a major concentration of tech companies. Back in the heyday of Nokia, the company had thousands of employees in Tampere. It still has many in network development.
I went do the city centre with my camera and tripod yesterday night. I took some pictures around Tammerkoski rapid.
Towards the north from Satakunta bridge. Tampella is a heavy industry manufacturer whose products include paper machines, locomotives and artillery weapons.

Hämeensilta bridge over the rapid towards the west. Hämeenkatu, the main street, is a huge construction site because of the ongoing light rail track construction.
