Ueno Park in Tokyo One of the largest parks in Tokyo Ueno Park is located in the Taitō District. Once being part of the Kaneiji Temple - the main temple of the Edo period - today it is considered a park since 1873. Ueno Park is known for containing cultural sites such as the Tokyo National Museum and Ueno Zoo, the oldest zoo in Japan. The park’s origin is of great importance as well—it contains many shrines and statues. However, Ueno Park’s prime season is the cherry blossom’s, also called sakura, when thousands of people come to observe flowers, known as hanami in Japanese, blooming. The place is also renowned for its bright leaves in autumn and therefore it becomes an appealing place to visit regardless of the season.
