Cyberbullying: Definition and Prevention
Simply put, cyberbullying is the use of techniques to annoy, intimidate or threaten someone by using technology. Recognizing the signs is very important, but much of the time, victims do not realize they are ill, for example, they become anxious or even depressed, or they start behaving differently than they used to. Cyber harassment can manifest in several ways such as evolving and disseminating rumors, sending out threats or humiliating pictures of individuals on websites.
In order to stop cyber-bullying before it increases further, it is best to prevent it from ever occurring. Concerns regarding online experiences or emotions should be voiced and discussed. Teach children and teenagers to use the internet sensibly and be ‘whoever’ they want while being responsible for their words and actions. Establish some protocols to be followed when online and supervise their social networking use in a non intrusive way.
Also, demonstrate to them how to report or block bullies on various platforms. It’s said that a supportive environment always assists the victims to find the courage and strength to ask for help and build up sturdiness against any online hate. Prevention and early detection of cyberbullying should be at the center of every initiative aimed at fighting this cyber curse.
