Siamo finalmente arrivati al mese di agosto.
Per noi torinesi ha sempre voluto dire la grande fabbrica di auto che chiudeva per tutto il mese.
Sin dalla sera del 31 luglio la stazione di Porta Nuova veniva presa d'assalto da migliaia di abitanti delle regioni del sud, emigrati nel capoluogo piemontese proprio per lavorare in Fiat, che tornavano al paese per le sospirate vacanze.

In quei tempi le vacanze duravano un mese, lavorava quasi sempre soltanto una persona per nucleo famigliare, si viveva serenamente, molti riuscivano ad acquistarsi una automobile utilitaria ed a
mandare i figli a scuola.
Ogni paragone con la situazione attuale e' impresentabile.

La sera del 31 luglio non chiudeva soltanto la Fiat ma anche tutte le ditte dell'indotto torinese che lavoravano per lei, tenete conto che negli anni d'oro nella fabbrica sono arrivati a lavorare oltre
200 mila persone.
Torino supero' cosi' il milione di abitanti grazie proprio alla discesa degli emigrati dalle terre del sud, ho fatto ancora tempo a vedere quegli sciagurati cartelli appesi alle porte;“ non si affitta ai meridionali”.
Alla fine si e' sempre i terroni di qualcuno...

Torino si svuotava in quei roventi mesi di agosto, per trovare un panettiere aperto dovevi fare 4 isolati ad andare bene.
Un mese di ferie toccava quasi a tutti, ricordo che fino ai 14 anni a luglio i miei genitori mi mandavano in colonia poi ad agosto dai nonni che vivevano in Liguria sulla costa.
Ad Agosto Torino in quegli anni l'ho vista poco.

Oggi e' tutto cambiato, la gente lavora anche ad agosto, molti fanno 1 settimana di vacanza, i piu' fortunati ne fanno due ma sono sempre di meno.
In famiglia si lavora in 2 altrimenti i soldi non bastano per mandare avanti la baracca.
Forse fa piu' caldo di allora, forse ci sono piu' comodita' ma quei mesi di agosto erano vissuti con una immensa spensieratezza, il giusto spartiacque fra una stagione che finiva ed una che iniziava.
