As I was waiting for the coffee to brew this morning, it occurred to me that I never actually DO anything.
OK, so you are probably thinking something quite different now, than what I had in mind... but stay with me!
Marigold, interrupted by fly...
I started writing a blog post this morning. I get about three sentences in.
Then, Mrs. Denmarkguy popped into my office with a question about a logo she's been working on.
Afterwards, I write two more sentences... and I notice a really nasty small.
So I get up and clean the cat box in the adjacent utility room, where our lovely kitty, Shadow, has just laid a big pile.
I sit down and get going again... get maybe four sentences done, this time...
... and then the phone rings.
After the conversation, I start writing again... and five minutes later, realize that I really have to go pee.

So I go to the bathroom, all the while thinking about the fact that this blog post will take six hours to finish, even though I have barely done 20 minutes of actual writing.
Which led me to the sad conclusion that I never actually DO A THING, at most I do a series of little fragments of things.
Of course, it isn't just writing, it's all sorts of different parts of life. And it's not just me, it's increasingly the way everyone navigates life.
My personal epiphany that arose from this contemplation is that it's what lies behind my frequent lingering irritability.
It also helps to explain why people so readily spend lots of money on meditation sessions, and even thousands of dollars on week-long spiritual retreats. We have reached a point where we are paying do have time to simply be, which seems more like a "basic right" to me than any other rights people claim entitlement to.

Then I remembered talking to an acquaintance about my walks on the beach... and they were literally horrified that I would be gone for hours and wouldn't take my phone along. I'd take a camera for pictures, but not my phone.
"But what if someone needs to get a hold of you???"
To put it bluntly, they can either wait or they can piss off!
Meanwhile, this is not the blog post I was working on. I ended up scrapping that one because it simply didn't "flow."
So my advice to everyone in 2021: Give yourself a chance to have cohesive stretches of time without interference!
Thanks for reading, and have a great rest of your week!
