Mt. Shasta North Face

Mt. Shasta is a majestic, steep-sided stratovolcano located about 97 km (60 mi) north of Redding along the I-5 corridor in Northern California. It is the most voluminous of all the Cascade Range volcanoes, and the towns of Weed, Mt Shasta City, and McCloud lie in the shadow of its 4,317 m (14,163 ft) high snow- and ice-clad edifice, which also holds the headwaters of the Upper Sacramento River.https://www.usgs.gov/volcanoes/mount-shasta

Mount Shasta began forming on the remnants of an older, similar volcano that collapsed 300,000 to 500,000 years ago. The collapse spawned one of the largest landslides known on Earth, covering more than 440 km2 (170 mi2) of Shasta Valley to the northeast. Activity over the last 300,000 years includes long intervals of quiet interrupted by shorter spans of frequent eruptions. Eruptions at about 11,000 years ago built Black Butte and Shastina on the western flanks of Mount Shasta.https://www.usgs.gov/volcanoes/mount-shasta

This series of photographs were taken on a 3 day adventure around the mountain. I was shooting Fuji 400 color film, Nikon 8008 with a 52 mm 30-80 Nikkor AF with ND 4 and ND 2 filters used at the same time to compensate for the high altitude sun blow-out and high ISO when shooting mid-day. I love the idiosyncrasies of film.

What do you mean?

I love the colors in the last two shots. Good depth.

Thank you, the last 2 were the only ones I made adjustments to. The FIlm is not as forgiving as digital. If I want good shots, I have much more to think about. It also behaves differently in digital post-processing, grain/noise is the big thing that is affected.

When I had a film camera, I had little idea about art photography. Basically it was shooting family scenes and something like that. Slides have survived since then, but when I look at them ... I cry :( Lol

I have a few rolls of slide film left - good old Kodachrome. I wonder how many people on steemit even know what "slides" even are. My dad worked for Kodak, I got my film training from him.

Among my tapes were Kodak tapes, Fuji tapes and something else. But then ... I was not a photographer, I don't even know what to call who I was then...
I probably won't dare to work with film now. It would be interesting, but I cannot develop the color slide myself. And then either paper printing or digitization is needed ...
I'm already used to digital format :)

Me encantaaa 😍.

Thank you so much.

That's one impressive mountain, I must ask the question, is it possible to hike/climb? :D

The south face is beautiful and the tree diversity makes it even better for the composition, great post once again friend! :)

Thank you. Yes, you can hike to the top (and ski down if you want). I believe that there a few technical rock climbing routes and quite a few hiking trails scattered around the mountain. There is a ski resort and all of the forest roads are open to nordic skiing in the winter and jeeping in the summer. Lots of wild camping to see deer, bears, cougar, and once I saw a wolverine (super rare). It is also a very spiritual place.

Sounds like my cup of tea, would definately try one of the activities out :)
