Bolshoe Kalikino is a village in Velikoustyugsky District of Vologda Oblast. It is part of the Mardengsky rural settlement. Until 2001, it was part of the Luzhengsky Village Council.
This village remained inaccessible to me for a long time: I didn't know how to get there – either by boat from Krasavino, or on foot through the forest for six kilometers. There were even thoughts to drive along the shore from the Lower Priluk in low water...
But it turned out to be much simpler – you need to go by car in dry weather from Myakalskaya Sloboda along a forest road.
Only if rain is planned on the same day, it is better to abandon the trip, since you will not be able to leave back because of the steep ascents and descents.
The road, by the way, was bulldozed so that you can even drive a car.
The village stands on the bank of the Sukhona River, almost opposite the village of Krasavino, the one where colored flints are found.
Usually I don't like to photograph such places in the evening, but this time the light was just right!
People still live in Bolshoe Kalikino.
There are more than twenty houses and several streets.
The facades, which is logical, are located towards the river with a picturesque view of the layered banks.
There are also abandoned houses, but there are very few of them.
There used to be many villages nearby, both on the other bank and on this one, but they have all disappeared.
It's amazing that Kalikino still lives, because the way here is not easy on any kind of transport.
I usually come to the village by car, leave it and explore everything on foot.
But due to the rapidly fading evening light and the large area of the village, I had to drive from one end of the village to the other.
There were also cozy places that ate into the memory.
If I wanted to have my own house here, it would be only at this end of the village, where there is a bathhouse among the birches!
The shore of Sukhona has no access to the water due to willow thickets. I don't like it when it's like this.
Someone came by boat...or just has her by his side.
The opposite shore is more conducive to walking. I was there last year and dreamed of getting to Kalikino, looking at the houses from the other shore.
And now here I am!
and I really like it here!
Perhaps if I had been here in the early morning or afternoon, I would have liked it less.
Still, the evening brings more mysticism to the sensations.
To be continued...
