Holiday Reflection: A Time for Giving Thanks and Gratitude!

Thursday, November 23rd, 2023 is Thanksgiving Day here in the USA!

All around this nation, individuals and families will gather and have a feast, and usually there will be the inevitable family feuds and there will be watching football on TV, and there will be Uncle Bob falling asleep in his chair after dinner. Those are simply the traditions in many families.

But let us not forget that this is a season of gratitude. This is a holiday of giving thanks for what we have harvested.

To many people, these are somewhat dark times in which we live. Even in a wealthy country like the USA, many people are struggling to make ends meet due to rising costs of living and incomes that are just not keeping up. Many have had to make difficult choices.

But even when things are not really going the way we could wish they were, there are usually still things in our lives that we can be grateful for.

Maybe it is something very simple and yet very important like having good health. Maybe it's something's fleeting that made us happy for a moment, like a smile from a stranger on the bus. Maybe it's simply the fact that we have a roof over our head tonight and food to eat.

If I have a wish for everybody for this holiday season it is that we all take a moment — or several moments — to remember that there are good things in the world, even though we may be preoccupied with some of the negatives and spend a lot of time complaining about how wrong the world is.

Perhaps the old saying about having "an attitude of gratitude" is a bit trite and overused, but we can also make life more difficult than necessary for ourselves by spending too much time with an attitude of complaining about everything.

Let's set the complaints aside for a day, and remember gratitude!

Thanks for coming to visit, and Bright Blessings to all!
With heart,
Rev. Sarah
